Reading Books: My Favourite Way to Avoid Reality

In 2024, I read 60+ books—unplanned, chaotic, and extremely on-brand for me.

In 2025, I decided to make it official and challenged myself to 72 books.
I completed 75, because apparently I don’t understand the concept of restraint.

So in 2026, I’m trying to be humble and going back to 70.
Growth, but make it realistic. I am trying to track it all on Goodreads.

Which means I’ve spent the last few years living in other worlds instead of my own… and honestly, I highly recommend it.

Books are my favourite escape.

Some people meditate.
Some bake.
Some run marathons.

I just open a book and poof—I’m suddenly in a fantasy kingdom, falling in love with morally grey characters who absolutely need therapy.

Somewhere along the way, reading became the one thing that makes me genuinely, ridiculously happy. Even on the busiest days, I somehow squeeze in a page or two. Not for discipline. Not for productivity. Purely because disappearing into another world feels magical.

Of course, my mother believes my book collection is a public safety hazard.

“Stop filling the house with books,” she says—
while I quietly add five more to my cart.

But that’s the thing about hobbies: they don’t have to make sense to anyone else.
If it brings you joy, it’s valid.

And yes—I do have recommendations.
Just not the “change your life and fix your habits” kind.

I read to escape reality, cry unnecessarily, and fall in love with fictional men who set wildly unrealistic expectations—and those are exactly the stories I love sharing here.

But here’s the sweet part—
having a hobby that makes you this happy is a blessing.

It gives you something to look forward to.
Something that’s yours.
Something that softens life just a little.

I actually wrote about how books slowly took over my life in this post here. Consider this the origin story.

So tell me—
what’s that one thing you do simply because it makes you silly-happy?
